Competitive Bidding with a Bid Floor
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study competitive bidding with an explicit bid floor, motivated by minimum wage legislation and minimum labor standard. We derive the equilibrium strategies in, and compare the expected procurement costs among, the firstprice, second-price, English, and Dutch auctions in a private-cost model. For the English auction, we also consider a variant in which each seller can terminate the auction by jumping down to sell at the price floor. We find that the first-price auction and the aforementioned jump-down English auction lead to a lower expected procurement cost than under the second-price auction and the standard English auction.

Impact of Participants’ Market Power and Transmission Constraints on GenCos’ Nash Equilibrium Point
Unlike perfect competitive markets, in oligopoly electricity markets due to strategic producers and transmission constraints GenCos may increase their own profit through strategic biddings. This paper investigates the problem of developing optimal bidding strategies of GenCos considering participants’ market power and transmission constraints. The problem is modeled as a bi-level optimizati...
متن کاملBidding Strategy on Demand Side Using Eligibility Traces Algorithm
Restructuring in the power industry is followed by splitting different parts and creating a competition between purchasing and selling sections. As a consequence, through an active participation in the energy market, the service provider companies and large consumers create a context for overcoming the problems resulted from lack of demand side participation in the market. The most prominent ch...
متن کاملBid Markup Decision and Resource Allocation for Cost Estimation in Competitive Bidding
To receive a project contract through competitive bidding, contractors submit a bid price determined by putting a markup on the estimated project cost. Since a bid is inevitably affected by an inaccurate cost estimate, sufficient resources should be allocated to cost estimation. This paper develops a novel optimization model for determining the bid markup and the resource allocation for cost es...
متن کاملPrice-takers’ bidding strategies in joint energy and spinning reserve pay-as-bid markets
Strategic bidding in joint energy and spinning reserve markets is a challenging task from the viewpoint of generation companies (GenCos). In this paper, the interaction between energy and spinning reserve markets is modeled considering a joint probability density function for the prices of these markets. Considering pay-as-bid pricing mechanism, the bidding problem is formulated and solved as a...
متن کاملThree Quantitative Management Problems in Public Procurement and Decision Procedures for their Analysis and Solving
Three management problems that a state (or a public administration acting on its behalf) faces in procuring goods and/or services are considered: a) choosing the type of a contract to be awarded and the type of a competitive bidding to determine the winning bid, b) setting the initial price for a contract being the subject of the bidding, and c) designing (or choosing) a set of rules for determ...
